3 reasons why you should never power wash your home.
1. High pressure will damage your siding.
We have seen damaged siding one too many times here in Chester County. Often times, a homeowner attempted the power washing job, or a new start up company with little knowledge or experience used the wrong method to clean the home. We have even been called to fix siding on homes damaged by a company that has been around since the 90s.
When using high pressure, the idea is to mechanically remove the biofilm on the surface in hopes to clean it. Unfortunately, what is really happening is the oxidation and top surface of the siding are being removed instead. This causes major damage. See picture below.
2. High pressure doesn't actually clean the siding.
When using high pressure, the algae spores that make your house look dirty and green are not being effectively removed, and, in turn, the siding will return to its unsightly state within a few months. Using high pressure on painted surfaces of your home could also result in paint damage, followed by an maddening trip to the hardware store to buy paint.
3. High pressure is dangerous.
3. Imagine climbing up a ladder, pulling the trigger of a 3500 psi hose (that you chose to buy) and having water going everywhere. Between the kick back of the trigger and the water spraying in every direction, this is a recipe for disaster and a potential trip to the hospital.
